Skate 2 Demo Review
Well I finally got to play the new skate 2 demo last night and I was left with a bad taste in my mouth because the demo left me disappointed. Do not get me wrong though the game looks better than ever, but they really did a piss poor job on the demo and this could be the shortest demo that I have ever played. First of all there is no free skate mode there is just career mode and party mode.
Career Mode starts off with you having to create a character mode which is cool and all, but why put this in the demo? Thankfully you can skip through this pretty quickly and actually get to the skating part. The demo begins with you having to do a tutorial area having you do all the stuff you already know like ride your board, kickflip and ollie. Once you complete this you get to the actual skate park. Once you enter the skate park you can actually skate around for a bit in a really nice and well designed area. The skate park is full of half pipes, grind rails, and all the things you would like to see in your skate park. The big flaw in this demo is it has a time limit starting out at 5 minutes. You gain time by completing objectives in the demo, but in the end you seriously only have about 6 minutes to just skate. Overall the demo lasts no longer than 10 minutes.
As far as the party mode goes you get to pick up to I think 5 players. You then get to pick to do one of two events. The first one is just jumping a gap and then doing about 5 seconds of tricks. The second mode is you jumping off of a ramp and trying to do as much damage to your body as possible. It works very similar to burnout revenges crash mode. Unfortunately this mode is not online in the demo.
Overall the demo was fun, but just way too short. I can understand why they would want to do this because the last demo you could play for about 30 minutes and some people including me felt that this was a long enough skate session that there would be no point in buying the game. Now after playing this demo I really feel like I want to buy this game just so I can skate around and do mad tricks with my friends.
I also found a video of the entire demo here on gamersyde.

Well, I don't think im going to waste my time downloading this game.
ReplyDeletedownload it and play it, its really funyn how i moved a 500 pound box up a hill at slappys and then used it as a diving board to break my ankles. im gunna buy the game the day it comes out and will preorder if it comes wiht any extras
ReplyDeleteits FREE.. jeez, what a wanker
ReplyDeleteWOW, What the hell has become of the gaming community?! I just read above that it was unfortunate that the game's party play was offline! NO its unfortunate that it's not split-screen! therEs way too many one player games out now. Even franchises like Midnight club have sold out. It's almost like the industry wants us to stop sharing gaming experiences in person and only playing with friends that have their own copy, system, and xbox live account! Its a fukkin shaMe! and as for the demo: TIS FINE! THE GAMEPLAY IS SHORT BUT YOU CAN EDIT YOUR PLAYER FOR AS LONG AS YOU WANT! IT PLAYS FINE AND WELL WHO CARES IF ITS SHORT, THE GAME DROPS IN A FEW WEEKS!
ReplyDeleteI personally like that they added in the character creation part, it allows us to see some of the new clothing items they have, and it's more fun to skate with a character you created than a default character, even if its for only a few minutes...
ReplyDeletetthe game waz lagit and there is aklso a glitch that will let you go out of slappys park and explore there is vids of it on youtube and also on www.glitcher.net but other than the demo being the shortist demo ive ever played in my life it waz the best game ive ever played and i am so getting it when it comes out
ReplyDeleteso funny, complaining about a free demo being too short. It's enough time to decide if you like the game, and if so whether to buy it. It's not supposed to be a freebie. If all games did this it would save us a fortune, I've got loads of games that are crap, and I wouldn't have bought them if I'd been able to try them first. This shows the confidence they have in the game. And when you play it you can see why. It's amazing.
ReplyDeleteDisapointed?? It made you want to buy the game afterwards, i'd call that a successful demo.
ReplyDeleteOnly 1 thing got to me after playing the demo (which lets face it has a lot to live up to as the sequal to one of the hottest next-gen games)... the off-board stuff - its way too difficult to move your character. And the ability to pull your board towards you (:S) Its like something outta Star Wars lol
Play a real game and none of you would have anything to cry about. LOL
